I'm So Excited

and I just can't hide it...!

I am so happy to be studying Ancient Greece and Rome. Christian is loving A Triumph for Flavius. A Child's History of the World is also holding everyone's attention. We use Heart of Dakota (Gracewhisperer~ I figured it out!!) as our main dish but we sprinkle in some other things for flavor.

This post was a motivating way to start our Wednesday.

Thank you for stopping by.

Dinner Bomb

I have been making some meals from the Hungry Girl Cookbook. Most have been a hit but tonight's meal.....not so much. I made the Veggie-licious Crab Cakes. As I was cooking them the kids were crying. The topper was when

Ollie whined "Mom, why are you roasting salad?".

Only me

Today as I was on the phone prepping for the day and catching up with a friend Christian picked up the extension.

"ummm mom, this is an emergency. Apparently Quinn has a dead rabbit in the living room"

Yes, apparently he did.

Thankfully I have Ollie The Brave to take care of these situations.

That being said Christian and Gilli had knitting lessons today and they are both sitting making belts right now. I think I am in an alternate universe.

The tea was caffeinated and I drank the whole pot.

A Merry Heart....

I have been looking for a topper for my Christmas tree I have in my bedroom.
There is something I love about hydrangeas so this tree is special, I am afraid to put it in my hot/cold attic. I found this at Genevive's. There were so many fun, springie ideas.
There was also a sign asking customers to refrain from taking pictures in the store.
This beach-y star is just what I wanted.

Sorry for the red in the pic!! My friend Leslie and I scooted out for tea and a huge multi layer tray of food. We stayed 30 minutes passed closing time (what place closes at 6pm on a Saturday???) We had a blast. We had much to catch up on. I feel encouraged with some new ideas and the fact that I laughed until my face hurt. I always say this I have the *BEST*
friends in the world.

How many bad things can happen to 2 friends in 12 hours?

Normally I try to keep my thoughts, thus my post in line with Philippians 4:8 (Whatsoever things are lovely, true ect). Since this is meant with levity and made me laugh I deem it ok. So here we go:

1. drank some hot cocoa which looked like it had extra chocolate. Yup~ it was dirt from a 1 year old

2. got yelled at by a doctor, in front of other patients for not taking blood pressure meds. Was then offered antidepressants like a kid on Halloween (ie Do you want Paxil? How about Prozac?)

3. Went for yearly haircut only to make a mistake on time to leave and ended up with a 5 minute haircut and wet hair in a bun instead of much looked forward to pampering

4. After 1 visit to a co-op, friend thought I had been co-opted into a fringe religious group

That is what friends are for, to listen, laugh, and compare stories.

Easy Hang

Today we went sledding at Theamusingreadhead reader Amy's house

The boys had a blast (literally and figuratively)

Gilli and Kaylee were hamming it up.
Gills desperately needed a haircut.

All better!

Amy's house is very laid back and relaxing. She never stresses or worries (that I see ;-)
It was a restful time catching up on things *and* we almost fake crafted if you count making plans with huge rolls of upholstery fabric.

Friendship

Tonight I miss my friend Alisa with an extra measure. She moved to California with her husband and children 7 years ago. I cannot believe it has been that long. She is an amazing entertainer. I remember one beautiful summer eve we had grilled chicken with pasta and tomato vodka sauce. She rigged a wrought iron chandelier she found at a yard sale from a tree branch over the picnic table. Each place setting had a real green oak leaf with each person's name written in silver pen, anchored with a lit votive in a glass holder. Simple, yet it let each person know that they were special. She was the friend I borrowed 100 champagne glasses from for my parent's 30th Anniversary I held at a fire house. I tortured her by running every menu by her when we had company.

Alisa is a wonderful listener. When I finished speaking she didn't just jump in, she would eagerly nod her head to hear more.

We had big crafting plans! I would drive over to her house every Tuesday evening for "Craft Night" except we never felt like doing the crafts... We finally started calling it "Fake Craft Night".

I miss sitting on a stool in her kitchen and chatting.

It doesn't look like they are coming back to NY anytime soon but I am thankful for email and for my special friendships.

Quote of the Day

My mother used to say, if you are going to be a ditch-digger, that’s fine, just be the best ditch-digger. What that has to do with anything, I don’t know, but it makes me feel better to say it.

~~Aunt Rum, Cat Philanthropist

In case you were wondering

I have also heard it is hard on the hair.

~ Disclaimer~ The above has nothing to do with convincing BFF-4EVR and family to stay put in lovely Guilderland and not move to the Thunderstorm Capitol of the US. Nothing.at.all.

Back Seat Theologians

Maybe you had to be there but Gilli and Julianna were discussing weighty issues on the long ride to our homeschooling co-op today. In case there is anyone reading who doesn't know us irl Gilli is 7 , Julianna is 4.

Gilli: God is everywhere. He is all around us, He is in this juice bottle (continues with 1,000 more examples I cannot remember).

Julianna: (shocked) IS He even in California?

We rejoin our scene a few minutes later

Gilli was describing the Jesus loves us so much he went through the Crucifixion, how He was beaten ect

Julianna: (disgusted) What kind of people *were* these????

Pump- Day 2

Our first full day on the pump was better than the prior in that eventually Ollie was in a safe range. Right now I am chasing down BGs in the 400s again. I will give him a shot of insulin if he is still high at 2. There are a lot of people to help us navigate these new waters. We just need to dig in and row, eh Frank?

Yes, I am "mixing my metaphors", that is what happens when sleep deprived.

Well

It is 2:30 am. I have poked Ollie no less than 15 times since 8pm, I am having a hard time getting his blood glucose down. I changed his site, finally I just gave him a shot. The pump is amazing, I am so thankful we live in a time with such helpful technology and medicine. I just have to get into the swing of it. So far..not so much. I have to be a friendly human being to my children in 4 hours, not pretty.

Overheard

Ollie (age 5) to mom : "MOM, the most *AMAZING* thing just happened in my life! You know how somtimes the toilet gets plugged and you need the plunger? That happened and .......IT WENT DOWN BY ITSELF. It is like a miracle!"

Ollie is now running on his pump! The pump educator was awesome. It is a little bumpy but I know it will be second nature soon. We had a pump part tonight :-)

Co-op Re-cap

I am sorry I never have pics of the older kids at co-op. They are not in any of my classes. Ollie still doesn't want to be without me (since he was in the hospital) so he shadows me.

In the K-1 Science class they are learning about the body. Miss Amy taught them all about the heart, she had a great experiment to show how the heart is a pump.

In PreK they are also doing the body. Here is Abby adding her bones and muscles to her "body".

Ollie was the helper of the week! He should be in a different class but for now he is with me in Pre K until he is ready to go to his class.

Tomorrow is pump day!!!! The educator is coming to our house at 11 :-)
