Jesus, Savior Pilot Me

I am waiting for my camera battery to come in so I posted an old pic from elderberry picking in the fall.
I have never sung the hymn I posted below but I can't wait to hear the tune.
My prayer today is "Lord, please pilot me" for I need guidance through the hard times as well as the times of rejoicing. He is all.

Jesus, Savior, pilot me,
Over life's tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll,
Hiding rock and treacherous shoal;
Chart and compass come from thee,
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When at last I near the shore,
And the fearful breakers roar
'Twixt me and the peaceful rest,
Then, while leaning on Thy Breast,
May I hear Thee say to me,
Fear not, I will pilot thee.

You can sing this to "Rock of Ages" if you know that tune. At least, I can make it fit.

me too! Great suggestion!

I will have to ask if we can sing it at church. My all time favorites are Nearer still Nearer and Lord, I Need You. When Ollie was diagnosed with diabetes the song Heaven Came Down and Glory Filled My Soul kept running through my head.

Recently heard a friend of ours sing this for worship at their church. It was the first I'd heard it -amazing song and lyrics.

Christi,

I am glad to hear it is still sung, I never heard it before. When are you coming over?

You can hear the tune for "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me" (and even see a picture of the composer) on the Cyber Hymnal here...

And to hear a lovely piano arrangement of the tune, check out my daily blog on hymn history for today, Wordwise Hymns.

Thank you Robert! Your site is a great resource for homeschoolers and anyone who would like to learn more about the history of where the hymns we sing came from. The stories make the songs so much richer.
